What is Domain Auto Renewal?
Domain Auto Renewal is a setting available to each domain name you have registered with us. If this setting is enabled for a domain, we will automatically invoice you prior to the domain name's expiration and then, after successful payment, renew the domain for the term you specificy (normally this is for one year but you can select a renewal period of up to 10 years for most domains).
How do I enable Domain Auto Renewal?
You can enable domain auto renewal for any domain name registered with StrtaCorps LLC by logging in to your account on our Client's portal here.
Once you are logged in you may view your registered domains by going to the Domains + My Domains link from the client portal menu. From there you will see a list of domains you have registered along with their current status (active, expired, etc.) as well as a column showing whether Auto Renew is Enabled or Disabled for that domain.
Clicking on the "Active" button for any currently valid domain on your account will allow you to make changes to the settings for your domain including the domain name's hosting information as well as the auto renew setting.
Note that if the domain status is anything other than "Active" the auto renew setting and other options for your domain will not be available to you. Expired domains may be renewed or recoverd depending on how long it has expired (see below).
Do I have to auto renew my domains?
No. The auto renewal is an option that can be enabled or disabled at any time prior to the domain name's expiration. You may then choose to (1) let the domain expire, (2) renew the domain registration manually from your account, or (3) transfer the domain to another domain registrar.
It is important to remember that, in order for you to retain ownership of a domain, the domain's renewal (or transfer to another registrar) must be completed prior to the domain's expiration date. After the domain name has expired you will not be able to make any changes to the domain's contact information or name servers. The expiration date is provided to you on your account online as well as noted with any email notifications that we send to you concerning the expiration or renewal status.
I no longer need the domain, what should I do?
You can choose to let the domain expire. You should make sure that any domain name that you do not wish to renew has the Auto Renewal setting disabled. That way you will not be invoiced and we will not attempt to renew the domain for you. Please note that you will continue to receive the mandatory expiration reminders before and after the domain expires (see below).
I have disabled Auto Renew so why am I still receiving domain name expiration reminders?
As a domain registrar, we are required to send notifications about any domain registered with us to the domain name's registrant.
We will send a renewal reminder and expiration notice both 30 days and one week prior to the expiration of a domain name. We will then send you an additional notification within 5 days after the domain name has expired. You may receive additional noitifcations directly from the domain's registry in an attempt to verify your ownership of a domain. Some of these notices are sent on our behalf and cannot be stopped. Emails sent directly by us will cease as soon as the last reminder has been sent giving you the opportunity to renew or transfer your domain at the last minute.
What happens if I forget to renew and my domain expires?
When a domain expires it becomes inactive immediately. Typically a parking page will be displayed for anyone trying to reach your webiste and all the services attached to it, such as a website and/or email cease to function. You cannot make any changes to the domain while it is expired. The domain will remain available for reactivation at your regular domain rate under your list of Expired Domains. To reactivate an expired domain, simply log in to your account at our client's area and manually renew your domain.
StrataCorps provides a non-guaranteed 29-day grace period for renewal for many top level domains. Although each registry has different rules for their grace periods there are no guaranteed grace periods for domains registered through us. Once a domain expires we may dispose of it at any time according to the registration agreement. After the grace period elapses, the domain may go into a Redemption Grace Period (see below) before it is deleted from the registry.
We highly recommend that you enable Auto Renew for your domains (see Enable/Disable Auto Renew for Domains). Likewise, we suggest you keep track of your domain expiration dates and renew well in advance to avoid unintentional down time or loss of the name. You can sort your domains by expiration date, or run reports to help aid you with the management of your domain expiration dates from your account. Courtesy emails are sent out 45 days prior to expiration to warn you of the impending expiration. Once you renew the domain, all previous settings will be recovered and the domain will be active (generally within 24 hours after renewal or recovery).
What happens after the domain has passed the grace period?
After a domain has passed through any applicable expiration grace period, the domain may go into redemption status.
The "Redemption Grace Period" is the grace period of time that is provided after the registrar has issued a delete request to the registry. Only the previous registrant can recover the domain during this time, and it must be retrieved through StrataCorps. The Redemption Grace Period is named differently for some TLDs; the .org equivalent, for example, is "Pending Delete - Restorable."
Domain names in the redemption or recoverable grace period may be recovered through your account online. There is an additional fee in addition to the original renewal fee in order to recover the domain during this period.
Once a domain has passed the redemption period, the domain will enter a "Pending Delete" status that refers to the 5-day time frame after redemption. During this time the registry holds the domain and it cannot be recovered. Once the Registry deletes the domain, it becomes available for anyone to purchase as a new domain. It is available on a first-come first-served basis.
We may be able to assit you further if you need to recover a domain that is about to be deleted. Typically we recommend that you wait for the domain to be deleted and register it as quickly as possible. You should note however that domain names that may be highly desirable by others will decrease your chances of re-registering the domain after it has been deleted. If this is of concern to you then we would recommend using a domain auction service to insure the domain is placed on backorder. We will need to to quote you a fee for this service as this can vary depending on the registry and popularity of the domain name.
How do I manually renew my domain?
You may manually renew your domain at any time before it expires. Select the domain you wish to renew from the list of domains registered with us you can follow the Renew Domains link from our client's portal. From here you will see a list of domains in order of expiration. Simply select the number of years to renew/extend your domain registration and then Add to Cart. You can renew multiple domains at the same time with one simple payment.
If a domain cannot be renewed or recovered manually, please open a support ticket with us so we may investigate and assist you further. Some registry providers may limit our ability to recover expired domains through our automated systems.
How do I transfer my domain to another registrar?
Domains may be transferred to another registrar any time before the domain name expires. We have a knowledge base article published that outlines the steps necessary to successfully transfer a domain while minimizing any disruption of service here.
We're not sure what you are looking for, however if you are trying to manage your hosting service for your domain, you will need to login first.
